On June 22, 2023, the Ontario government announced the creation of Bigwood Lake Provincial Park, the new first full-service park in over 40 years. Bigwind Lake Provincial Park will become Ontario’s 116th operating provincial park.

The largest parks

The Ontario Parks system covers more than 78,000 square kilometres, approximately 10% of the province’s surface area. The largest park within the system is Wabakimi Provincial Park at 892,061 hectares.

The Ontario Parks system boasts more than 100 fully operating parks. These parks are maintained by park staff and give visitors an opportunity to connect with nature without sacrificing modern conveniences like having access to restrooms, electricity, and a visitor centre.
